You’re smart, career-oriented and ready for a well-paying career right now. With KY FAME, you can dive into a challenging advanced manufacturing career while receiving the education needed to build your resume and make you highly marketable to manufacturers across the state.

Once you’re accepted into KY FAME, you will begin work on a combination education/training program to earn certification as an Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT). You will attend classes at a local community college two days a week and work 24 hours a week for a local employer – all while being paid a competitive wage for your work. After five semesters you will have earned an associate degree in Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance Technology-Advanced Manufacturing Technician Track, 68 to 71 college credit hours, two years of work experience and the AMT certification. At that point, you’ll be ready to enter the workforce full time with all the skills needed to succeed—and with the potential of no school debt!

What will a typical week look like?

You will attend classes two full days per week (8– 10 contact hours) at your local participating community college while working 24 hours per week at a sponsor’s facility for a competitive wage while gaining hands-on experience.

What will I learn?

As a participant in the AMT program, you will participate in hands-on training and education to develop you as a fully-rounded worker, including:

  • Mastering a multiskilled technical skill set, including electricity, robotics, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, industrial troubleshooting, and much more
  • The Manufacturing Core Exercises, which prepare you to contribute to a safe and highly efficient, cost effective workplace. These include Safety Culture, Visual Workplace Organization, Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving, and Machine Reliability
  • The Six Professional Behaviors, including Work Attendance, Initiative, Diligence, Interpersonal Relations, Teamwork, and Verbal and Written Communication

What happens when I complete the program?

You’ll earn:

  • An Associate in Applied Science in Industrial Maintenance Technology-Advanced Manufacturing Technician Track
  • 68 to 71 AMT credit hours
  • Approximately 1,800 hours of on-the-job training and work experience
  • Potentially zero student-loan debt
  • Opportunity for full-time employment with a sponsoring employer
  • Or continue your education in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at an AME participating engineering university or in Advanced Manufacturing Business at Northwood University
